Caregivers of children with autism often take on multiple roles; they become advocates, teachers, and problem-solvers, all while balancing daily life. It can be rewarding, but it can also feel overwhelming.
At Little Spurs Autism Centers, we believe no caregiver should navigate this journey alone. While aba therapy helps children develop essential skills, progress also depends on caregiver involvement. That’s why we offer programs and support designed to empower caregivers with tools, knowledge, and confidence.
Caregiver Education Sessions
Children spend only part of their time in therapy—the rest happens at home, school, and in the community. Our Caregiver Education Sessions provide strategies caregivers can use every day:
- Group Caregiver Education: Quarterly sessions where caregivers learn together and share experiences.
- Caregiver Meetings: One-on-one discussions with a BCBA to review progress and address new behaviors.
- Caregiver Coaching: Hands-on practice using Behavioral Skills Training (BST) to build confidence in real-life situations.
- Caregiver Education: Focused lessons on ABA therapy concepts to help caregivers understand therapy methods.
These sessions can be held at our centers or in your home and are tailored to meet each family’s needs.
Group Caregiver Education
Quarterly Group Caregiver Education Sessions offer a supportive space to learn from a BCBA and connect with other families. Topics include:
- Understanding why behaviors occur and how to respond
- Encouraging communication at home
- Building independence with daily living skills
- Using positive reinforcement
Caregivers leave with practical tools and reassurance. Families can sign up for email reminders to stay informed about upcoming sessions.
School Advocacy: ARD/IEP Support
Navigating the school system can be challenging. ARD (Admission, Review, Dismissal) meetings determine eligibility for special education, and an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) outlines personalized goals. We support caregivers by:
- Reviewing your child’s progress and needs
- Helping set meaningful goals
- Explaining school terminology
- Preparing caregivers to advocate confidently
- Attending meetings with a BCBA if needed
Partnering with Caregivers
